years after giving CUPA the most generous contribution
for building the much loved Animal Shelter in Bangalore,
Daniel Ginsberg finally visited what he had helped to
create. Much to the delight of all at CUPA, Dan spent
an enjoyable morning with the CUPA family. |

to work, calves rescued from slaughter, abandoned cows
and bullocks will be the permanent residents of the

| Found on the road with a broken fore
leg, this little male calf would have ended up at the
local butchers. Some kindly passerby informed CUPA Shelter,
where it is presently housed and taken care off. The
Large Animal Sanctuary would cater to animals like the
above calf. |

| This young buffalo bull was handed
over to CUPA by a kind hearted farmer who could not
afford to feed it any more. Though the farmer would
have gained financially by selling it to a butcher,
he chose the more compassionate option! |

COMMUNITY
TEAMWORKS - A PROGRAMME BY GOLDMAN SACHS
CUPA shelter animals were enriched
by the visits and involvement of employees from
Goldman Sachs as part of their annual volunteering
programme - Community TeamWorks.
Happy mornings were spent bathing the dogs, cleaning
cages, painting old grills and enclosures as well
as gardening at the CUPA shelter. It was a lovely
exposure for both the animals and the human beings
concerned.Shelter staff and animals were quite
sad when the programme came to an end, after a
couple of months!! |

MARCHIG
ANIMAL WELFARE TRUST, SCOTLAND - CUPA'S PROJECT
WITH HELPING CATS-2006
CUPA's cattery and cats have
received the most welcome attention from the Marchig
Animal Welfare Trust, Scotland. With a grant
for Helping Cats-2006 - CUPA's cat house
is getting a much needed facelift that would help
to house more kittens and cats , who need to be
operated, vaccinated and released. Apart from
the many lovely kittens who come in for adoptions,
the cattery also takes in cats whose owners need
to leave it somewhere safe, when they leave town.We
will embarking on an ambitious programme of cat
sterilisation operations in areas where stray
and feral cats are on the increase, due to ignorance
and lack of veterinary facilities.
In the meantime, feline visitors for treatment,
operations and housing are on a daily increase
in what is affectionately termed as Crystal's
cattery, at the CUPA shelter premises. Thanks
to Marchig Trust for specifically helping cats....they
need it more as often their situations tend to
get neglected, in India. |

REHABILITATION
FACILITY AT NTI
On the 14th of July'06, the
National Tuberculosis Institute (NTI) in Bangalore,
opened the first ever rehabilitation facility
for their guinea pigs, which are retired from
experimentation. The facility is on the beautiful
grounds of the NTI campus. Sanober Bharucha and
Suparna Ganguly from CUPA had worked closely with
the Director, Dr. P.Kumar and Veterinarian Dr.V.K.Challu
to make the facility cosy and pleasant for the
retired inmates. The Internal Animal Ethics Committee
of NTI felt proud and happy that in spite of the
fact that animal experimentation is sad but sometimes
inevitable, it is important to make the effort
to relieve the pain, stress and suffering of the
animals involved. |
